The Presbyterian Church:
The Presbyterian Church throughout the country. While the 2019 statistics are still being complied, we are able to look at the 2018 statistics regarding the PC(USA) church. In 2018 there were approximately 9,161 PC(USA) churches with 1,352,678 members. As is the case with most mainline churches from the Reformed tradition, the PC(USA) church throughout the country has been on a steady decline for the past 15 years, with the statistical age ranges staying the same, with the majority of the congregation being over the age of 65.
While Second Presbyterian is clearly going against the trend, we are part of a larger Presbytery which is part of a larger Synod, which, in turn, all together make up the PC(USA) church. We can lift our brothers and sisters up in prayer and they seek to follow Jesus in all that they do, while reaching out to a hurt and dying world.
I can’t impress this on you too strongly. God is looking over your shoulder. Christ himself is the Judge, with the final say on everyone, living and dead. He is about to break into the open with his rule, so proclaim the Message with intensity; keep on your watch. Challenge, warn, and urge your people. Don’t ever quit. Just keep it simple. You’re going to find that there will be times when people will have no stomach for solid teaching, but will fill up on spiritual junk food—catchy opinions that tickle their fancy. They’ll turn their backs on truth and chase mirages. But you—keep your eye on what you’re doing; accept the hard times along with the good; keep the Message alive; do a thorough job as God’s servant.
