SERMON SNAPSHOT: Sunday, November 21, 2021
Dear Friends in Christ –
This Sunday is the last Sunday of the liturgical year and next Sunday begins Advent. I’ve come to appreciate the liturgical seasons. Through the common lectionary we are bound to/with each other across denominations, in common scripture on a rotating basis in three year cycles. These cycles aren’t random. There is a focus on a particular gospel each year which allows us to entertain a variety of texts – Old Testament, Psalm, Epistle, Gospel – each week that we would probably not be exposed to otherwise. How are they chosen? Only the lectionary gnomes know! But each year on the last Sunday, Christendom celebrates Christ the King – not Christ the Savior, nor Christ the incarnate God, nor Christ the eternal lover of our souls, nor Christ the embodiment of truth. This Sunday, in these times, our focus will celebrate Jesus in all his dimensions.
See you in worship -
